What is the A1 Spouse Visa Exam?
For UK Spouse, Fiancé, Partner, or Family visa applications, a Home Office approved SELT (Secure English Language Test) is mandatory. The most popular choice is the Trinity GESE Grade 2 (A1) exam.
Exam Format
- Duration: Approximately 6 minutes
- Type: Speaking and Listening only (no reading or writing)
- Format: One-on-one interview with an examiner
- Fee: Approx. £155 - £175
- Result: Pass or Fail
What Level of English is Required?
A1 is the beginner level. You are expected to:
- Introduce yourself.
- Answer simple questions about yourself.
- Talk about your daily routine.
- Understand clear, slow speech.
